What is it?: The Magnet Griffeye OCR plugins allow users to automatically extract visible text from images and videos during an investigation. Text is then converted into searchable bookmarks and metadata, accelerating the review process and helping you uncover critical information faster – even when it is hidden in screenshots or screen recordings. There are two plugins available, one for Griffeye Server and one for Griffeye Advanced.
Who can register?: All Griffeye users who work with images or videos that include chats, screen captures, or text overlays, and wants to extract and analyze text more efficiently.
How does it help?
- Enable faster filtering, searching, and linking of evidence across your case by saving text as bookmarks and metadata.
- Highlight important details, such as text found in signs and notes, that may be overlooked during manual review.
- Uncover names, keywords, or phrases in screenshots and screen recordings to advance your case.
Why are we testing this?
Magnet is working to improve our OCR capabilities, but we need your input to help us shape the solution. By testing OCR in your day-to-day workflows, you can help us learn what works well, what needs improvement, and how we can develop OCR capabilities to best support your investigations.

- Accuracy: Are key words/phrases correctly extracted from images and videos? Are there any significant errors or omissions?
- Relevance: How useful are the extracted text snippets to your case objectives?
- Performance: Does the plugin impact system speed or responsiveness?
- Usability: Is the integration into Griffeye intuitive? How should results be presented to maximize utility?

The beta project for the Griffeye OCR plugins has a limited capacity. If given access, you’ll receive an email with instructions on how to download and setup the plugins.
